I CrossFit because

It makes me a better person. Crossfit has taught me not to give up when things get tough and instead look towards the end goal I am aiming for. Just like when we do a workout and we are in the middle of it – sure we want to quit, and its hard but we know that there are only 4 more minutes on the clock and soon we will feel amazing becuase we have achieved something and challenged ourselves.

I also crossfit becuase it’s the only workout regimen that will make me push past my comfort zone

Born and raised

I was born in Bulgaria but as a child, due to my fathers job, I travelled the world and moved places every 3 years. I’ve lived in North Korea, South Korea, India and then finally moved to New Zealand in 2001. So now I think I would call myself a Bulgaria Kiwi 🙂

Certifications & experience

CrossFit level 1, Crossfit Level 2, Kids CrossFit, IKFF KettleBell L1, CrossFit Mobility, CrossFit Gymnastics

Coaching philosophy

When I started CrossFit I could barely do a pushup on my knees and my knees would buckle in when I squatted. The only reason I have got to where I am today is because of persistence. All you need to do is make sure that every day you are a little bit better than yesterday, push a little bit harder and sneak some small weights here and there – before you know it you will be doing things that were once a distant goal.

Dont give up when things get hard but keep chipping away – nothing comes easy, but if you work hard the results will be more rewarding than the pain you had to go through to get there. Believe in yourself and know that you can do anything you set your mind to – all you have to do is decide that YES, I will achieve this goal, learn a pull up, a handstand or whatever excites you

Favourite WOD and movement

Favourite movement is definitely the Squat clean! I love that movement so much that I could do it all day every day. To me it just feels natural and makes so much sense. So if you need help with it you know who you need to come and see. As for favourite workout, it really depends on my mood. One that always comes to mind though is the hero WOD Ship:

Nine rounds for time of:

185 pound Squat clean, 7 reps

8 Burpee box jumps, 36″ box

I love the workouts that look ridiculously easy but once you start you find there is so much depth to it.

Least favourite WOD/exercise

Least favourite exercise is definitely knees to elbows, but I am hoping next time you ask me that question to have a different answer. I like knees to elbows but it seems knees to elbows dont like me!

As for least favourite workout….right now what I really dont feel like doing is:

Kelly CrossFit WOD:
Five rounds, for time:

Run 400 meter
30 Box jumps, 24/20 inch box30 Wall ball shots, 20/14#

Great wod but horrible feeling

Favorite food

Yes it is weird but I love salads. You can put anything in them and have such a large variety of ingredients. Bacon and eggs in a salad? Hell yeah! I also love cheesecake so if you need someone to test your new paleo or non paleo creations – I am always available and happy to give my opinion

What I do when I’m not CrossFitting

I love reading and developing myself as a person. I also enjoy journaling and getting lost in the bush. Outside of that, I enjoy latin dancing or boogying at outdoor reggae concerts

CrossFit Hero

Neal Maddox: because he gets away with eating donuts and loves training cute grandmas all while being extremely passionate – oh and he’s a badass.

Favorite quote

Its actually a poem..by William Arthur

‘I will do more than belong – I will participate. I will do more than care – I will help. I will do more than believe – I will practice. I will do more than be fair – I will be kind. I will do more than forgive – I will forget. I will do more than dream – I will work. I will do more than teach – I will inspire. I will do more than learn – I will enrich. I will do more than give – I will serve. I will do more than live – I will grow. I will do more than suffer – I will triumph.’

You can’t do whatever’s easiest and still reach your goal. You must do more. You must do ‘whatever it takes’.
